Origin of Restaurants

The word restaurant emerges from the Latin “restaurare”. It signifies “to renew” and was first opened by a Parisian named Monsieur Boulanger in 1765. It serves restorative broths and is named Rue des Poulies. In front of the restaurant, a Latin phrase is written from the Bible:

“Venite ad me omnes qui stomacho laboratis, et ego vos restaurabo.”

meaning “Come to me, those whose stomachs ache, and I will restore you.” Later in 1782, Antoine Beauvilliers opened its first grand restaurant. He gave customers a great dining room and a handful of well-trained servers to accommodate.

What is a restaurant?

It is a place where delicious meals are served with fine dining. One can find many cuisines and beverages along with desserts on the menu. We can get a full platter, and the place will be busy. Various cuisines like French, Chinese, Indian, Mediterranean and Turkish are available on restaurant menus due to the increasing gastronomy. Gastronomy is nothing but a study of the relationship between food and culture, cooking authentic delicacies from a particular region.

The restaurant’s ambience is mainly designed for families to dine in. You can have a royal feel when sitting on their furniture. No need to worry about the cleanliness cutlery and service are always top-notch, with a piece of perfect music in the background. The restaurant brand gets fame through its multiple cuisines, services, and significant place to accommodate. Obviously, as a family, if you want to have a super duper platter, this is the right place.

A good restaurant is like a vacation; it transports you and becomes more than just about the food.

Origin of Cafes

The word cafe was taken from french, meaning coffee or coffee house. It was derived from Turkish kahve and was first opened by Armenian merchant Johannes Diodato, a registered coffee house in 1685, Vienna.

Hakam from Aleppo and Shams from Damascus, after capturing the Talchtacalah district of Constantinople, opened a sizeable coffee shop named Kiva Han. It is said to be the oldest Cafe in the world. The world’s most famous cafes are Cafe Central, Vienna, Sant’Eustachio il Caffe, Rome, and Toma Cafe, Madrid.

What is a Cafe?

A cafe is a place in a small area with a menu of coffee, crunches, and other beverages. They also provide pastries, muffins, lattes, iced coffee, espresso, croissants, and burgers. Indeed, the Cafe is becoming attractive to youngsters because customers can have quality time for hours with their laptops and can also read books.

Nowadays, cafes provide indoor games and a pet-friendly ambience to dine in.

Moreover, the ambience of cafes is unique, with the aroma of coffee smell and pastel colours all over. The furniture is from scratch, and the interiors are thought-provoking.

The motive of a cafe is to make customers feel relaxed with their laptops or books in the space of hours.

“And the idea of just wandering off to a cafe with a notebook and writing and seeing where that takes me for awhile is just bliss”.

-J. K. Rowling

The difference between Cafe and Restaurant:

  • In Cafe, the main focus is on coffee, and in the restaurant, the main focus is on varieties of food, beverages, and desserts.
  • Cafes have limited food items shown on digital screens, besides menu cards with multiple options embedded in restaurants.
  • The size of the Cafe is small, and the interior is casual and perky; on the other side restaurant’s size is massive with a formal look.
  • People can stay longer in cafes to do their office work and have chit-chats; additionally, restaurants are always noisy with a hustling atmosphere.
  • The price, when compared, is economical in cafes and expensive in restaurants.
  • The important fact is that one has to accommodate their food in a cafe, while a waiter serves the meals in restaurants.
  • Cafes focus on extra activities like indoor games, pet-cordial, and many events; Restaurants focus on cleanliness, extraordinary services, and delicious meals.
  • Ultimately, it is up to what the tummy prefers: a light snack with coffee for hours or a heavy meal with international cuisine.
